ELDEX COLLABORATION PROJECT: FURNITURE (2021)

ABOUT
Age often plays a huge role in design focus when targeting a specific demographic. As we age, so do our cognitive and mobile abilities, needing more aid in the daily tasks we do. In collaboration with Eldercare Exhibition and Conference Asia (ELDEX), the project looked at improving the lives of our fellow senior citizens in their homes. How are we able to implement design through the innovation of furniture, to cater to the needs and wants of the elderly?
"KENKUZO" (2021)
"Kenkuzo" was designed with the key ideas of "help", "health" and "healing" in mind. Health as a priority is extremely important especially to the elderly demographic. And with the current COVID-19 pandemic preventing more elderly folks from being able to leave their homes often, that also means not being able to use or enjoy the outdoors and the various wellness facilities dotted in our neighborhoods. "Kenkuzo" is a chair that provides the equipment for exercise in the comforts of their home. Masked as a leg rest, it provides the accessibility of exercise and encourages the user to move even when sitting down. The rattan gives the design an organic feel, and keeps the user cool in Singapore's hot sunny weather
