INNOVATIVE KITCHEN PRODUCTS PROJECT

ABOUT
The kitchen is an integral part of the household and a necessity in our daily lives. Yet, the environment poses many opportunities and problems where design can come into play. How can design tackle and address some of these loopholes we face in our own kitchens? Or to look at it with an additional perspective, how can we create innovative products to aid, enhance or change a user's experience?
"OPUNA" (2021)
Made to aid children in dexterity, strength and mobility issues they face in food preparation, "Opuna" is a packaging opener that opens multiple forms of packaging in one device. The idea was derived after much observation of children in the kitchen and this was a common area they all struggled with. The packaging opener aims to make this process easier and give the user a sense of achievement when they successfully lift a tab or pull a can open. Not forgetting aesthetics, I derived the functions of the opener from the features of familiar looking figures - in this case, a dolphin and an orca, where their organic features double as the functions and play in tune to the aesthetics made suitable for this demographic.
